Amy Zerner 1951 —
Biography
In her collaged creations, Zerner preserves bits and pieces of the past and present and incorporates them into images that are beyond time. She gathers, arranges, links and layers each piece. Cutting, sewing, balancing, placing and replacing, she also paints, dyes and colors directly. Her elaborate iconography, emerging from her repertoire of techniques and patterns, is guided by her intimate connection to universal archetypes. Zerner's unique garments are imbued with dazzling colorations, patterns, jeweled details and images.
Received honor of United States National Endowment for the Arts major fellowship.
Patti LaBelle on Amy Zerner Couture: "Her pieces give me a better understanding of how richly ornamented and special Joseph's coat of many colors (Genesis) had to be. They are all poetic works of art!"
Art critic Rose Slivka on Zerner's work: "At the core of Amy Zerner's vision, art and spirit are so inextricably bound to each other that they are the same."
